Pitsidia is one of the most beautiful villages of south Crete, as it preserves a unique traditional style with many old and renovated houses. Despite being a small village, Pitsidia offers all the modern facilites: tavernas, restaurants, cafeterias, a patisserie and many other shops. Moreover, it has a regular bus service to Matala, Mires, Timbaki, Iraklio and to other destinations. Big bazaars take place in Mires, a town close to Pitsidia, every Friday and Saturday. At those bazaars you can find local traditional producs.
Starting from Pitsidia you may take a walk to the surrounding area, go up to the hills, the olive gardens, the fields with the vineyards, the neighboring villages and the nearby cottages. The gorgeous beach of Komos is just 1500 meters from Pitsidia. The beautiful Cretan landscape makes the walk an unforgettable experience. In Komos among the old trees that provide thick shadow is located a very important Minoan archeological site that was once Festos's harbor.
There are many archeological sites in the Pitsidia area such as Festos, Agia Triada, Gortina and many others. Not only there are a lot of old churches and historic monasteries around Pitsidia but also there are many other small villages with a unique local color.
